I have recently begun building and modding amps, and some of you may have noticed the AC30 looking amp that i have been playing at our shows for the last few months. I don't have time presently to build or mod anyone elses amplifiers, but i may begin to do this in the future. Because of this i am looking to sell my 2 main touring amps.
The first is a Mark Sampson era Matchless Clubman 35. This is the amp i used for the last 10 years primarily. It is featured on And All the Colors, as well as Via Satellite. Mark Sampson is without peers in the botique amp world and his amps are very desired . It has many Vox like characteristics, with a really subtle tone circuit that is usable and musical and a master volume that is bar none the finest, and most usable master volume circuit ever; I don't like master volumes as a rule, and this is the only one i've ever used. The amp has an EL34 based powertube section and delivers a lot of headroom and punch, but with a chimey Vox sound. I have kept this amp completely stock as i don't think it could be improved anywhere.
The second amp is the Vibroking, which was designed by my good friend Bruce Zinky when he worked at the Fender Custom shop. This is a detail oriented hand wired beautiful amp. It is probably the best modern take on the classic Fender amps (which are great but quite fragile). It is used by a plethora of top name players such as Clapton, Cray, and GE Smith. I found it to be capable of a lot of sounds that i had to use multiple amps in the past to aquire, particularly beautiful Vibroverb clean sounds. It can really crank up as well when it needs to.
I made a couple of minor mods on this circuit. I reconed the speakers with polypropylene cones, which are sturdier and help with translating the bass frequencies, which are huge on this amp. The Poly makes the speakers MUCH stronger and less prone to being blown. I also did a couple of circuit mods that open up the headroom of the amp even further and really let the amp bloom, with an even fuller bass than before. These can of course be reversed to stock, but i don't think you would want to.
